The register's description

Synagogue originally dating from 1826, rebuilt in 1886 to designs by I. Gosschalk, which amounted to virtually a complete reconstruction. On the east side a three-sided enclosed hall with above the north and south sides gently sloping hipped roofs and a flat-roofed middle section with wooden skylight under a gabled roof. Blind side gables each with a pair of right-angled opening doors; east gable constructed of fine brickwork with in each of the three wall fields separated by two corner pilasters a blind round-arched window opening with above the middle one, which contains a date stone from 1886, a round blind opening. Grey and white painted interior with plastered walls, which above are articulated with a moulded wainscot with raised panels divided by fluted pilasters with gilded Corinthian capitals and large framed fields between the pilasters, which are enclosed with a profiled moulding, above which the slightly recessed soffit leads to the ceiling. Stucco plasterwork ceiling with framed, rectangular fields and in the skylight in each of the three fields a stucco ornament. Against the west gable the women's gallery, resting on either side of the inset middle section on a Doric column on a five-sided plinth and on the east side above a cornice with mutules closed off by a solid balustrade with profiled coping, corner pillars with diamond heads and double-conical half balusters. In the west gable double panelled doors to the hall: in north and side gable double panelled doors with cast-iron grilles in the upper panels and enclosed by pilasters, topped with a cornice on brackets. In the outer wall fields of the east gable a marble memorial plaque commemorating the visit of Queen Wilhelmina and Queen Mother Emma in 1918. The brown-red painted Holy Ark originates from the synagogue of Zaltbommel. Marble Tablets of the Ten Commandments above the arch of the Holy Ark, originating from Monnikendam. Fine, 18th-century, man-height, copper hanukkiah, originating from Haarlem. The synagogue is a building of general cultural-historical importance on the basis of archaeological and art-historical considerations; in this regard elements such as rarity, integrity and the aforementioned inventory items play an important role.
