NORBERTINESSENKLOOSTER Catharinedal, voorheen huis "De Blauwe kamer", bestaande uit een omgracht huis uit de eerste helft van de 16e eeuw, thans proosdij; een 17e eeuws kloostergebouw (opgetrokken na 1645, toen de Norbertinessen van Breda naar Oosterhout vertrokken), en een vroeg 19e eeuws poortgebouw. De proosdij heeft een rechthoekige traptoren, door trapgevels geflankeerd; de erachter gelegen woonvleugel heeft een hoge met pinakels versierde trapgevel van baksteen met lagen natuursteen. Description
NORBERTINE CONVENT Catharinedal, formerly house "De Blauwe kamer", consisting of a moated house from the first half of the 16th century, now provost's residence; a 17th century convent building (erected after 1645, when the Norbertines moved from Breda to Oosterhout), and an early 19th century gatehouse. The provost's residence has a rectangular stair turret, flanked by stepped gables; the residential wing behind it has a tall brick stepped gable decorated with pinnacles and with bands of natural stone, with similar stepped gables flanking it. The convent building has cross windows on the ground floor, two-light windows on the upper storey. Interior: in the room next to the tower 17th century gilded leather wallpaper; in the hall behind it stuccowork from 1710 and a late Gothic fireplace with 18th century hood. Paintings; eighteen portraits of provosts from the 17th and 18th centuries; three paintings (circa 1650, panel) depicting the sisters Elisabeth van Breda, Machtildis van Polanen and Odilia van Nassau; Painting from 1560 depicting the Carrying of the Cross; painting from circa 1660 depicting St. Norbertus receiving the monastic rule from St. Augustine; standing clock from the second quarter of the 18th century by Casper Reus at Breda.
