Exterior description and setting

Single-storey/ one-bay house facing south east with a gabled corrugated metal roof with stone chimney to right gable. Its walls are of large roughly-dressed and snecked granite blocks brought to courses.

The main façade, which looks seaward, has a central door with a single window on either side (each with a dressed granite cill); that to the right is a 2/2 sliding sash. There are no openings on the gables or rear elevation.

There is a lean-to outhouse on the right gable of coursed granite fieldstones and squared rubble.

Historical information

This building appears on the 1901 OS 6’’ map but not on the previous edition of 1859. This suggests a later 19th century date of construction.

Evaluation

The later 19th century date of this single-roomed dwelling is reflected in the use of dressed granite blocks as opposed to random rubble. It is said to have been a stonecutter’s house.
