Platform - peatland

The National Monuments Service's description

A peatland survey carried out in 2006 by Archaeological Development Services recorded a possible platform measuring in ‘width 1.85m, depth 0.35m. The platform was not dated. Described by Whitaker (2006, 77) as ‘this sighting was located on the north side of Littleton Bog between TI-LTNO16b and TI-LTNO17b. It was visible in the drain face, 0.41m below the field surface, and was composed of regularly laid parallel roundwoods. The elements were orientated northeast-southwest and were damaged where they were exposed in the drain face but better preserved where within the peat. There were nine roundwoods, four of which overlay the other five. They measured 0.12 to 0.6m in exposed length and 0.08 to 0.24m in diameter. This site is different in composition to the other sites in proximity to it. The peat was composed of poorly humified Sphagnum-rich peat with frequent Eriophorum inclusions’.
