The National Monuments Service's description
In a thicket of blackthorn, on a scrub-covered karstic terrace on the lower NW slopes of Knockanes ridge, in the Burren National Park. Listed as fulachta fia in the RMP (1996); a cluster of fulachtaí fia in the area was reported by Tom Coffey (1994) on annotated maps (SMR file). This fulacht fia is almost entirely engulfed in blackthorn scrub so that it is impossible to record its full extent. Only a portion (L 6m) of its S slope (H 0.7m) is visible. It is composed of a dense concentration of heat-shattered limestone fragments in a matrix of dark grey soil. A narrow gully, probably an old water course (dry at the time of visit) lies 1m to S, beyond which is a rising rock face which defines the S side of the terrace. A modern concrete water tank is located c. 10m to E, which is probably tapping into the source of the original spring. Another fulacht fia (CL010-143004-) lies 15m to the E on the same terrace and two fulachtaí fia (CL010-143001- and CL010-143002-) are c. 200m and 250m to SW on a lower terrace.
