The National Monuments Service's description
On a scrub-covered karstic terrace on the lower NW slopes of Knockanes ridge, in the Burren National Park. Listed as fulachta fia in the RMP (1996); a cluster of fulachtaí fia in the area was reported by Tom Coffey (1994) on annotated maps (SMR file). A compact horseshoe-shaped mound (9m E−W; 7m N−S; H 0.8m at W) with a well-defined U-shaped central hollow (2.5m N−S; 2m E−W at mouth) open to SW. The E side of the mound abuts jutting bedrock above which a vertical rock faces rises. The W arm of the mound is grass-covered; the E arm is engulfed in a thicket of hazel scrub, and beneath this canopy the mound surface is covered by a thin, patchy layer of moss, exposing in the bare patches a dense concentration of limestone fragments in dark grey/black soil. Another fulacht fia (CL010-143002-) lies c. 50m to the NE on the same terrace and two fulachtaí fia (CL010-143003- and CL010-143004-) are located c. 200m to the SW on a higher terrace.
