Université créée en 1350 par Pierre d'Aragon, dépendant de l'évêché d'Elne. L'annexion du Roussillon à la France, en 1659, fit apparaître l'université de Perpignan comme un agent de francisation du Roussillon. En 1760, le comte de Mailly fit construire le nouveau bâtiment qui abrita les enseignements jusqu'à la Révolution. Cet établissement était doté d'un jardin des plantes, d'un jardin des arbustes, d'une bibliothèque publique, d'un cabinet d'histoire naturelle, d'un cabinet de physique et d'un amphithéâtre d'anatomie. En 1795, l'université est remplacée par l'Ecole Centrale. Depuis 1980, les bâtiments abritent les archives municipales. Plan en U inscrit dans une parcelle triangulaire. Le corps central présente une façade de style classique avec ordre toscan et fronton triangulaire, flanqué de deux ailes surmontées d'un étage au 19e siècle. History
University founded in 1350 by Pierre d'Aragon, dependent on the bishopric of Elne. The annexation of Roussillon to France in 1659 made the University of Perpignan appear as an agent of Frenchification of Roussillon. In 1760, the count of Mailly had the new building constructed which housed the teaching until the Revolution. This establishment was equipped with a botanical garden, a shrub garden, a public library, a natural history cabinet, a physics cabinet and an anatomy amphitheatre. In 1795, the university was replaced by the Central School. Since 1980, the buildings have housed the municipal archives. U-shaped plan inscribed in a triangular plot. The central body presents a classical-style facade with Tuscan order and triangular pediment, flanked by two wings topped by an additional storey in the 19th century.
