Comme cette plaque figure sur une croix fichée, du type croix de Malte, il s'agit sans aucun doute d'une fondation des hospitaliers de Saint-Jean de Jérusalem. La fondation à Perpignan d'un hôpital de cet ordre est déjà mentionnée dans deux textes du 12e siècle.
