Historique
Succursale de la Société française des Grands Bazars et Nouvelles Galeries réunies, le magasin fut construit par les architectes Léon et Marcel Lamaizière en 1906-1907. Bâti sur le modèle parisien, l'édifice comporte une ossature métallique masquée par une enveloppe de pierre de taille blanche, qui a permis de réaliser de grandes baies à arc surbaissé sur deux niveaux. Ces baies ont conservé leurs fermetures vitrées d'origine. De style Beaux-Arts, l'édifice emprunte son vocabulaire ornemental aux 16e, 17e et 18e siècles, tout en étant en rupture avec les règles de l'architecture classique par son absence de symétrie et de travée axiale. History
Branch of the Société française des Grands Bazars et Nouvelles Galeries réunies, the shop was constructed by architects Léon and Marcel Lamaizière in 1906-1907. Built on the Parisian model, the building comprises a metal frame hidden by an envelope of white ashlar, which allowed the realisation of large bays with lowered arches on two levels. These bays have retained their original glazed closures. Of Beaux-Arts style, the building borrows its ornamental vocabulary from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, while being in rupture with the rules of classical architecture through its lack of symmetry and axial bay. The shop was enlarged in the 1920s by Marcel Lamaizière.
