History
Desaix, general of Napoleon, is a striking historical figure at the national level. In 1838, the general council decided on the execution of a bronze statue of Desaix. The commission falls within the policy of national reconciliation pursued by Louis Philippe. The execution was entrusted to Charles François Leboeuf known as Nanteuil. The work was inaugurated in 1848, installed on a provisional base of brick and wood. The pedestal was completed in 1903 by Poncelet.
