Dès 1822, la Chambre de commerce de Granville demanda l'érection d'un feu sur la pointe du Roc en raison des nombreux naufrages aux abords du port. Le directeur général des Ponts et Chaussées décida d'y établir une tour cylindrique en granit, équipée d'un appareil lenticulaire. Augustin Fresnel dessina tous les plans. Se situant à 34 mètres au-dessus des plus hautes mers, la tour de onze mètres ménage trois salles superposées. La chambre du gardien se compose d'un grand lit clos lambrissé de chêne et d'une cheminée de marbre. Plafonds et planchers sont ornés de marqueterie. La tour est allumée en novembre 1828.

History
From 1822 onwards, the Chamber of Commerce of Granville requested the erection of a beacon on the tip of the Roc due to the numerous shipwrecks around the port. The general director of Bridges and Roads decided to establish there a cylindrical tower in granite, equipped with a lenticular apparatus. Augustin Fresnel drew all the plans. Situated at 34 metres above the highest tides, the tower of eleven metres provides three superimposed rooms. The keeper's chamber consists of a large box bed panelled in oak and a marble fireplace. Ceilings and floors are decorated with marquetry. The tower is lit in November 1828.
