Historique
La forme de radoub du port parachève les aménagements du port de Granville, entamés dans la seconde moitié du 18e siècle. La Chambre de commerce réclama la construction d'un bassin de radoub pour assurer notamment l'entretien des terre-neuviers. Le projet fut approuvé en 1880 ; les travaux achevés en 1888. La forme de radoub, de plan ovale, a été construite en blocs de granit assemblés en queue d'aronde pour offrir une meilleure résistance aux poussées de la mer. Cette forme présente la particularité technique d'être dispensée de système de pompage. Du fait des grandes marées, la cale pouvait se vider automatiquement, porte fermée, au moyen d'un conduit de vidange. La forme n'est plus utilisée depuis 1978.

History
The dry dock of the port completes the improvements to Granville port, begun in the second half of the 18th century. The Chamber of Commerce demanded the construction of a dry dock basin to ensure in particular the maintenance of Newfoundland fishing vessels. The project was approved in 1880; work completed in 1888. The dry dock, with an oval plan, was constructed in blocks of granite assembled in dovetail to provide better resistance to sea pressure. This dock presents the technical peculiarity of being dispensed with a pumping system. Due to the large tides, the slipway could empty itself automatically, with the gate closed, by means of a drainage pipe. The dock has not been used since 1978.
