Le monument fut érigé, en bordure du lac de la Forge, par Bertrand de Lur-Saluces, en 1926. L'ensemble du village (forges, écoles, logements des ouvriers, salle des fêtes), construit par la famille de Lur-Saluces, est le témoignage du paternalisme qui se développe au 19ème siècle. Monarchiste et catholique convaincu , le commanditaire fît appel au sculpteur Henri Charlier. L'édifice se présente sous la forme d'une lanterne des morts sculptée, dont le sommet est occupé par une statue de Saint-Louis.

History
The monument was erected on the edge of Lake Forge by Bertrand de Lur-Saluces in 1926. The entire village (forges, schools, workers' housing, village hall), built by the Lur-Saluces family, is testimony to the paternalism that developed in the 19th century. A convinced monarchist and Catholic, the patron commissioned sculptor Henri Charlier. The edifice takes the form of a sculpted lantern of the dead, whose summit is occupied by a statue of Saint-Louis.
