Historique
Cette porche fortifiée est un vestige du palais des comtes d'Auvergne, reconstruit par Jean Stuart, duc d'Albanie, au début du 15e siècle. La porte est franchie de plein pied. La voûte du passage est en arc bombé. Des échancrures ont été aménagées pour le passage de la herse. Au-dessus de l'arc de la voûte se trouve une fenêtre haute et étroite à encadrement en pierre dont l'appuie forme saillie. Le linteau et les montants sont moulurés et s'appuient sur de petites bases prismatiques. Le second étage est en légère saillie sur un arc brisé tracé au-dessus de la fenêtre. Il comporte une grande fenêtre rectangulaire à appui saillant et mouluré, avec croisée de meneaux à moulures prismatiques. Cette porte est contre-butée de chaque côté par un contrefort supportant à hauteur de la fenêtre du deuxième étage une tourelle d'angle en encorbellement sur cul-de-lampe.

History
This fortified porch is a remnant of the palace of the counts of Auvergne, rebuilt by Jean Stuart, duke of Albanie, at the beginning of the 15th century. The door is crossed at ground level. The vault of the passage is in a domed arch. Notches have been arranged for the passage of the portcullis. Above the arch of the vault is found a high and narrow window with stone frame whose sill projects outward. The lintel and mullions are moulded and rest on small prismatic bases. The second storey is in slight projection on a pointed arch traced above the window. It comprises a large rectangular window with projecting and moulded sill, with mullioned lights with prismatic mouldings. This door is counter-buttressed on each side by a buttress supporting at the height of the second-storey window a corner turret in corbelling on a corbel.
