Historique

History
The construction of oval barns, a type limited to a sector situated at the meeting point of the departments of Haute Vienne, Corrèze and Dordogne, appeared in the middle of the 18th century and continued at least until the middle of the 19th. The ground plan is characterized by its elliptical shape. A timber frame constitutes the structure of the building. In general, six square pillars support the roof beams bearing the panels and rafters, and define, with the roof beams of the hips, the oval shape. The whole received a covering of thatch. The walls of schist and quartz are not load-bearing, and serve only a protective function. The main gateway opens recessed at the centre of the façade. These paired barns appear to have already existed in 1820. A third barn was replaced by a large building constructed on the same principles as the oval barns, but on a rectangular plan. The largest retained its function as barn-byre. The second, slightly smaller, is called a fodder barn, used to store wheat, rye, vegetables and fruit. The two barns are today covered with sheet metal.
