How to Export a GEDCOM File from MyHeritage

MyHeritage lets you export your family tree as a GEDCOM file directly from the website. Once you have the file, you can upload it to TreeAlive to watch your ancestors' journeys unfold on an animated historical map.

Step-by-step instructions

Sign in to MyHeritage
Go to myheritage.com and sign in with your account.

Go to your family tree
Hover over "Family Tree" in the top menu bar, then click "Manage trees."

Find your tree
Locate the tree you want to export in your list of family trees.

Open the tree menu
Click the three-dot menu (⋯) next to the tree name.

Select Export to GEDCOM
Click "Export to GEDCOM" from the dropdown menu.

Wait for preparation
MyHeritage will prepare your GEDCOM file. For large trees, this may take a minute or two.

Download the file
Click "Download" when the file is ready. Save the .ged file to your computer.
Tip
If you have a MyHeritage subscription, your exported GEDCOM will include all the data in your tree. Free accounts can still export, but some features may be limited.
