Opening of the Cherokee Strip

Kay County · on US-77 at the Oklahoma-Kansas border

The present Oklahoma-Kansas state line marked the northern border of the Cherokee Outlet, which opened for settlement on September 16, 1893. This marker was dedicated in 1928 to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the opening of the Cherokee Outlet Opening.
