Oklahoma the Indian State

Kay County · on US-77 at the Oklahoma-Kansas border

Land in this area was granted to the Cherokee by the United States in 1828. The Cherokee Outlet opened to white settlement in 1893. The allotment of Charles Curtis (Kaw) was located on the Kaw Nation reservation east of this marker. Curtis served as vice president of the United States from 1929 to 1933.
