Cherokee Strip

On September 11, 1893, thousands of Americans gathered to prepare to make a run for homesteads in the Cherokee Outlet. The US government arranged to have booths placed near the Kansas state line for prospective settlers to declare their intentions to participate in the land run. The Cherokee Outlet opened for settlement on September 16, 1893, with land offices located in Perry, Enid, Alva, and Woodward.
