Baker Homestead
Alexander Baker of Scotland, fur trader and prospector, located on this town site in 1870, to become the first settler of International Falls, and received his patent for the homestead December 30, 1884. Baker died on September 4, 1899 and was buried in what is known as "Baker's Acre" within the city limits.
Verbatim 1940 text, presented as a historical record, not current interpretation. Minnesota now calls the 1862 conflict the U.S.-Dakota War and has since replaced the wording on some of these signs.
