This town, platted in 1857, was the county seat of Meeker County until 1869. It was also the site of the U. S. Land Office from March 1858 to September 1862. The town was stockaded during the Sioux Outbreak, resisted an Indian attack on September 3, 1862, and was garrisoned by troops until late in 1863.
