Old Crow Wing
A trading post was established opposite the mouth of the Crow Wing River just northwest of here as early as 1826 and a village later grew up around it. During the sixties the Red River trail crossed the Mississippi at this point. With the decline of the use of the trail the village gradually disappeared.
Verbatim 1940 text, presented as a historical record, not current interpretation. Minnesota now calls the 1862 conflict the U.S.-Dakota War and has since replaced the wording on some of these signs.
