Vicente Martínez Adobe

This adobe was built by Vicente J. Martínez in 1849 on Rancho Pinole, which was granted to Ignacio Martínez in 1836. In 1853 Martínez sold the adobe to Edward Franklin and the canyon in which the adobe was located was named after Franklin. Therefore the adobe was known as the Franklin Canyon Adobe.

1971 register text, presented as a historical document. It uses the period's terms for Native people; the state's landmark listings still carry most of this wording, and the California Office of Historic Preservation maintains the program's current texts.
