Lugo Adobe (Site Of)

The Lugo Adobe, said to have been built in the 1840's by Vicente Lugo, was one of the very few two-story houses in the pueblo of Los Angeles. In 1867 Lugo donated the house on the Plaza to St. Vincent's College (now Loyola University), the first college in southern California.

1971 register text, presented as a historical document. It uses the period's terms for Native people; the state's landmark listings still carry most of this wording, and the California Office of Historic Preservation maintains the program's current texts.
