Inleiding
Fors huis met fraaie, gave lijstgevel (tweede kwart negentiende eeuw), markant gelegen op hoek met Bentinckstraat. Twee kelderruimten met tongewelven (waarschijnlijk zestiende eeuw) en kaarsnissen. Deels negentiende eeuws, oorspronkelijk bedrijfsmatig gebruikt, achterhuis met wat oudere onderbouw.
Het pand is in het tweede kwart van de negentiende eeuw als geheel nieuwe invulling gebouwd op hoek Bakkerstraat/ Bentinckstraat. Van de voorganger resteert alleen de ws. zestiende-eeuwse kelder onder het op de hoek gelegen deel. De kleine kelder aan de Bentinckstraat, welke een hoger vloerniveau bezit, kan in oorsprong hebben behoord tot een apart huis, dat bij de bouw van het nieuwe pand zal zijn gesloopt. De bebouwing op het smalle perceel rechts van het pand, thans inwendig met het hoofdblok verbonden, dateert grotendeels uit midden twintigste eeuw en behoort niet tot de monumentale onderdelen.
Omschrijving
Het pand ligt aan de oostzijde van de Bakkerstraat, op de zuidelijke hoek met de Bentinckstraat. Het pand bezit een rechthoekige plattegrond, drie bouwlagen en omlopend afgeplat schilddak met gesmoorde moderne pannen en enkele niet oorspronkelijke dakkapellen. Tegen de achtergevel staat tweelaags achter- bouw met plat dak. De gevels van het voorhuis zijn gemetseld in baksteen in kruisverband. De vier traveeën brede voorgevel sluit af met fors hoofdgestel met ronde en rechthoekige casementen op het fries en bezit een hardstenen plint, waarin bij de vensters links kelderlichten met 3-licht- kozijnen met getoogde openingen. De vensters bezitten strekken, houten lekdorpels, kozijnen met duivejagerprofilering; in de eerste bouwlaag 8- ruits schuiframen, in tweede en derde bouwlaag 6-ruits schuiframen met persiennes. In de eerste bouwlaag rechts dubbele paneeldeur met geprofileerd kalf en 2-ruits bovenlicht.
De bakstenen zijgevel aan de Bentinckstraat bezit een gepleisterde plint. In de gevel bevindt zich een ingang met paneeldeur met 2-ruits bovenlicht. Geheel links een kozijn met middenstijl en twee 8-ruits schuiframen. In de tweede bouwlaag vier vensters, waarvan de linker twee oorspronkelijk zijn. Hierin een 6-ruits schuifraam en een gewijzigd raam. In de derde bouwlaag links twee vensters met 4- en 6-ruits schuiframen. In achtergevel (tweede bouwlaag) ingang met dubbele deur met 3-ruits bovenlicht en venster met 6-ruits schuifraam.
De gepleisterde achterbouw bezit in de gevel aan de Bentinckstraat drie vensters met enkelvoudige en dubbele 6-ruits schuiframen. In de tweede bouwlaag een kozijn met dubbel 4-ruits paneelluik met 5-ruits bovenlicht. In de achtergevel van deze achterbouw twee vensters met 6-ruits schuiframen en in het midden een zeer zwaar kozijn met 4-ruits deur. In de tweede bouwlaag drie vensters met bakstenen lekdorpels, diep liggende kozijnen met houten lateibalken en dubbele draairamen.
In het inwendige zijn onder meer van belang: Gewelfkelder onder het op de hoek van de Bentinckstraat gelegen gedeelte, bestaande uit langwerpige kelder met tongewelf haaks op Bakkerstraat en een hiervan gescheiden liggende kleine tongewelfkelder met de kruinrichting haaks op de Bentinckstraat. Deze laatste heeft een hoger vloerniveau en in de zuidgevel twee gekoppelde kaarsnissen. Van de oorspronkelijke negentiende eeuwse interieurelementen resteren geen belangwekkende onderdelen.
Waardering
Het huis met gave en karakteristieke vroeg negentiende eeuwse hoofdvorm, gevels en detailleringen, inclusief achterhuis, is van algemeen belang wegens architectuur- en cultuurhistorische waarde. Laatmiddeleeuwse kelders verwijzen naar historische verkavelingsstructuur. Voorts van stedenbouwkundig belang vanwege de markante situering in de oostelijke gevelwand van de Bakkerstraat, op de hoek van de Bentinckstraat, voor welks karakter het pand eveneens van groot belang is. Voorts van belang als onderdeel van de oorspronkelijke nederzettingsstructuur (rooilijn, verkaveling) van de middeleeuwse stadskern.

Sturdy house with fine, well-preserved cornice-topped facade (second quarter nineteenth century), strikingly situated at the corner with Bentinckstraat. Two cellar rooms with barrel vaults (probably sixteenth century) and candle niches. Partly nineteenth century, originally used as a business, back house with somewhat older substructure.
The building was built in the second quarter of the nineteenth century as a completely new construction on the corner Bakkerstraat/Bentinckstraat. From the predecessor only the probably sixteenth-century cellar beneath the section at the corner remains. The small cellar on the Bentinckstraat, which has a higher floor level, may originally have belonged to a separate house, which would have been demolished at the construction of the new building. The construction on the narrow plot to the right of the building, now internally connected to the main block, dates largely from mid twentieth century and does not belong to the listed components.
Description
The building is located on the east side of Bakkerstraat, on the southern corner with Bentinckstraat. The building has a rectangular ground plan, three storeys and a surrounding hipped roof with obscured modern pantiles and some non-original roof dormers. Against the rear facade stands two-storey rear extension with flat roof. The facades of the front house are laid in brick in English bond. The four-bay wide front facade is finished with a strong main cornice with round and rectangular casement windows on the frieze and has a hardstone plinth, in which to the left of the windows are cellar lights with 3-light cross windows with arched openings. The windows have stone window sills, wooden drip mouldings, cross windows with beak-mould profile; in the first storey 8-pane sash windows, in the second and third storey 6-pane sash windows with blinds. In the first storey on the right double panel door with moulded panel and 2-pane fanlight.
The brick side facade on Bentinckstraat has a plastered plinth. In the facade is an entrance with panel door with 2-pane fanlight. Far left a cross window with central mullion and two 8-pane sash windows. In the second storey four windows, of which the left two are original. With a 6-pane sash window and a modified window. In the third storey on the left two windows with 4- and 6-pane sash windows. In rear facade (second storey) entrance with double door with 3-pane fanlight and window with 6-pane sash window.
The plastered rear extension has in the facade on Bentinckstraat three windows with single and double 6-pane sash windows. In the second storey a cross window with double 4-pane panel shutter with 5-pane fanlight. In the rear facade of this rear extension two windows with 6-pane sash windows and in the centre a very heavy cross window with 4-pane door. In the second storey three windows with brick drip mouldings, deeply recessed cross windows with wooden lintels and double casement windows.
In the interior are among others of importance: Vaulted cellar beneath the section at the corner of Bentinckstraat, consisting of elongated cellar with barrel vault perpendicular to Bakkerstraat and a separately situated small barrel vault cellar with the crown direction perpendicular to Bentinckstraat. The latter has a higher floor level and in the south gable two coupled candle niches. Of the original nineteenth-century interior elements no significant components remain.
Valuation
The house with well-preserved and characteristic early nineteenth-century main form, facades and detailing, including back house, is of general importance for architectural and cultural-historical value. Late medieval cellars point to historic plot subdivision structure. Furthermore of urban planning importance because of the striking situation in the eastern facade wall of Bakkerstraat, at the corner of Bentinckstraat, for whose character the building is equally of great importance. Furthermore of importance as part of the original settlement structure (building line, plot division) of the medieval town centre.
