Omschrijving
BEELD BACCHANTE
Standplaats: aan het Velperplein. BEELD van Bentheimer zandsteen, voorstellende een bacchante. Het beeld is geplaatst op een zandstenen sokkel op vierkante grondslag. De sokkel bezit een eenvoudig geprofileerd basement en hierboven een zich licht verjongende schacht met aan elke zijde een spaarveld dat aan de onder- en bovenzijde afsluit met een schouderboogje. Hierboven bevindt zich een fries met palmetten dat de eenvoudig geprofileerde dekplaat draagt. De bacchante is grotendeels naakt afgebeeld en staat in een contraposte waarbij het linker been het standbeen is en het gekromde rechter het speelbeen. Ze draagt om haar lendenen een sterk geplooid kleed dat ze ter hoogte van haar heup met haar rechter hand vasthoudt. Het kleed drapeert over haar opgeheven linkerarm. In de linkerhand houdt ze een spiegel. Ze heeft lang krullend haar dat tot over haar schouders valt. Achter haar staat een siervaas welke is gedecoreerd met cannelures en guirlandes en gevuld met een overvloed aan bloemen.

Description
SCULPTURE BACCHANTE
Location: at the Velperplein. SCULPTURE of Bentheimer sandstone, representing a bacchante. The sculpture is placed on a sandstone base on a square ground plan. The base has a simply moulded basement and above it a shaft that tapers slightly with on each side a spare field that closes at the bottom and top with a shoulder arch. Above this is a frieze with palmettes which carries the simply moulded cap plate. The bacchante is depicted largely nude and stands in a contrapposto position with the left leg as the standing leg and the bent right leg as the free leg. She wears a heavily pleated dress around her loins which she holds at hip height with her right hand. The dress drapes over her raised left arm. In her left hand she holds a mirror. She has long curly hair that falls over her shoulders. Behind her stands an ornamental vase which is decorated with fluting and garlands and filled with an abundance of flowers.
