Introduction

WOODEN ARTILLERY SHED D (/a), as an example of non bomb-proof storage of materiel of Fort aan de Klop. Over the course of decades, wooden, stone and metal ('tin') sheds have been erected in various places within and outside fort grounds to serve as (provisional or permanent) storage, accommodation for people or materiel, hospital, fire station, horse stable, guardhouse, etc. A large part of these sheds has by now perished, been demolished or moved, but others still exist in situ. Sometimes these are particularly simple structures of small size, but there are also more complex and larger examples. Of the wooden sheds built in the 19th century at Fort aan de Klop, two still exist - Shed D (/a), the smallest and furthest from the tower, and Shed E - which are located next to each other in the southern part of the fort. The shed is constructed on a squat rectangular ground plan (approximately 11 x 8 m) and consists of wooden, horizontally applied, green-painted plank sections and roofed with pantiles in a gabled roof between gable ends with slight overhang and wind braces. White four-pane windows on the ground floor and in the gable ends. Diagonally boarded clamped doors. The interior has been altered to create space for a catering function.

WOODEN ARTILLERY SHED D (/a) at Fort aan de Klop is of general importance because of:
