NIEUWE HOLLANDSE WATERLINIE
Inleiding
STENEN SCHUUR bij de fortwachterswoning, als onderdeel van een rond het midden van de 19de eeuw gebouwd klein, met aardwerken versterkt fort ter verdediging van inundatiewerken en van het rivieracces van de Linge. Omdat de meeste forten en andere (buiten de bebouwde kom gelegen) verdedigingswerken - wanneer er geen sprake was van mobilisatie of oefeningen - geen bezetting met militair personeel hadden, was er in veel gevallen een aparte woning of andersoortig onderkomen voor een beheerder of wachter. Soms zijn additionele gebouwtjes aanwezig, zoals schuren of loodsen. De huidige fortwachterswoning bij het Fort bij Asperen is een relatief late - vermoedelijk omstreeks 1930 gebouwde - toevoeging aan het complex, ter vervanging van het oorspronkelijke, in 1914 afgebroken exemplaar. De stenen schuur is in dezelfde trant en gelijktijdig bij de woning opgetrokken.
Omschrijving
STENEN SCHUUR aan de noordnoordoostzijde naast de fortwachterswoning van het Fort bij Asperen, beide aan de linkerzijde van de toegang van het fort. De vermoedelijk rond 1930 gebouwde schuur is voorzien van een zadeldak dat is belegd met (opnieuw) verbeterde, gesmoorde holle pannen.
Waardering
De STENEN SCHUUR naast de fortwachterswoning van het Fort bij Asperen is van algemeen belang vanwege:
* Cultuurhistorische waarden, als onderdelen van de Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie zoals deze is ontworpen door C.R.T. Kraijenhoff en in eerste aanleg vanaf 1815 door hem, Jan Blanken en majoor-ingenieur Willem Offerhaus is gerealiseerd en daarna door anderen gedurende ongeveer 125 jaar is versterkt en verbeterd.
* Architectuurhistorische waarden, in het bijzonder als uiting van een aan de militair-strategische bouwkunde gerelateerde bebouwing.
Het betreft hier een onderdeel uit de periode 1925-1940, namelijk een bakstenen schuur.
* Ensemblewaarde en situationele waarden als onderdeel van de Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie. Tevens vanwege de functionele en fysieke samenhang met de overige onderdelen van het complex.
* Het onderdeel is representatief omdat het voorbeeld is van een relatief late, op een verdedigingswerk ingerichte schuur bij een dienstwoning.

NEW HOLLANDIC WATERLINE
Introduction
STONE BARN adjoining the fort keeper's house, as part of a small fort with earthwork fortifications built around the mid-19th century for the defence of inundation works and of the river access of the Linge. Because most forts and other defence works (situated outside built-up areas) had no military personnel stationed in them when there was no mobilisation or exercises, in many cases there was a separate house or other accommodation for a manager or keeper. Sometimes additional buildings are present, such as barns or sheds. The current fort keeper's house at the Fort bij Asperen is a relatively late addition – presumed to have been built around 1930 – to the complex, replacing the original, which was demolished in 1914. The stone barn was constructed in the same manner and at the same time as the house.
