Inleiding
WACHTGEBOUW W, aan de toegangsweg naar het fort als toevoeging aan het Fort bij Vechten. Militaire terreinen en gebouwen zijn van oudsher afgesloten, moeilijk of niet toegankelijk en / of bewaakt. De bewaking van toegangen tot militaire terreinen en gebouwen vergde speciale voorzieningen, waaronder wacht- of waakhuizen, poortgebouwen, hekwerken en wachtgebouwen. In het laatste geval gaat het om sterk uiteenlopende bouwsels, die kunnen variëren van zware metselwerken en / of bomvrije onderkomens tot eenvoudige houten huisjes. Het wachthuisje langs de toegangsweg van het Fort bij Vechten is een eenvoudig bakstenen pandje, zonder verdedigende functie.
Omschrijving
Ten zuiden van het fort, langs de toegangsweg van het Fort bij Vechten gelegen WACHTGEBOUW W, gebouwd op een vierkante plattegrond van circa 7 x 7 m. Het wachtgebouwtje is pas toegevoegd na de opheffing van het fort als verdedigingswerk, vermoedelijk in verband met de opslag van munitie na 1945 en stamt uit of van kort na 1955. Het huisje telt één bouwlaag onder een met gesmoorde, holle pannen gedekt tentdak. De gevels zijn in baksteen opgetrokken en voorzien van getoogde tweelichts vensters. De hoeken van het bouwlichaam zijn verrijkt met gemetselde en geblokte lisenen. De ingang bevindt zich in de tweeassige zuidoostgevel en bestaat uit een getoogde deur met vierruitsraam.
Waardering
Het WACHTGEBOUW W is van algemeen belang vanwege:
* Cultuurhistorische waarden als onderdeel van een van een nieuwe functie - opslag van munitie - voorzien fort van de Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie.
* Krijgshistorische waarden als onderdeel van een aaneengesloten militaire verdedigingslinie tussen de voormalige Zuiderzee en de Biesbosch. Deze bestond hoofdzakelijk uit een samenhangend systeem van inundatievelden en bijbehorende inundatiemiddelen en van schootsvelden. Dit systeem werd aangevuld met diverse, uit verschillende perioden daterende typen gebouwde of aangelegde (verdedigings)werken die dienden tot of bijdroegen aan afsluiting van niet te inunderen terreinen of andere accessen.
* Architectuurhistorische waarden, als in of kort na 1955 toegevoegd en niet versterkt onderkomen voor een (permanente) bewaking van het als munitieopslag fungerende fort.
* Ensemblewaarde en situationele waarden vanwege de functionele en fysieke samenhang met de overige onderdelen van het complex.
* Het onderdeel is representatief (karakteristiek) omdat het goed herkenbaar als wachtgebouwtje is toegevoegd aan het bestaande fort.
* Het onderdeel is tamelijk gaaf bewaard, omdat het zich als gebouwd onderdeel nog goed in het veld laat herkennen.

Introduction
GUARDHOUSE W, at the access road to the fort as an addition to the Fort bij Vechten. Military grounds and buildings have traditionally been enclosed, difficult or inaccessible and/or guarded. The guarding of accesses to military grounds and buildings required special provisions, including guardhouses or watch houses, gate buildings, fencing and guard buildings. In the latter case, these are highly varied structures, which can range from heavy masonry and/or bomb-proof shelters to simple wooden huts. The guardhouse along the access road of the Fort bij Vechten is a simple brick building, without defensive function.
Description
Located to the south of the fort, along the access road of the Fort bij Vechten is GUARDHOUSE W, built on a square plan of approximately 7 x 7 m. The guardhouse was only added after the fort's decommissioning as a defence work, presumably in connection with ammunition storage after 1945 and dates from or shortly after 1955. The building has one storey under a tent roof covered with dampened, hollow tiles. The facades are constructed in brick and provided with arched two-light windows. The corners of the building volume are enriched with moulded and blocked pilasters. The entrance is located in the two-axis south-east facade and consists of an arched door with a four-pane window.
Valuation
The GUARDHOUSE W is of general importance because of:
* Cultural-historical values as part of a fort of the Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie given a new function - ammunition storage.
* Military-historical values as part of a continuous military defence line between the former Zuiderzee and the Biesbosch. This consisted mainly of a coherent system of inundation fields and associated inundation facilities and fields of fire.
