The register's description

AANLEGSTEIGER, HET TERRAS EN TERRASHEK OP KADEMUUR ACHTER HET HOOFDGEBOUW Over Holland.

Waardering

DE AANLEGSTEIGER, HET TERRAS EN TERRASHEK OP KADEMUUR ACHTER HET HOOFDGEBOUW zijn van algemeen belang

- vanwege de cultuurhistorische waarde als gaaf bewaarde aanlegsteiger en terras met Vecht-hek uit de 18de- eeuw als uiting van een sociaal-economische en recreatieve ontwikkeling en traditie uit de 17de en 18de eeuw, waarbij vermogende particulieren uit oogpunt van exploitatie en vermaak de gronden aan weerszijden van de Vecht tot buitenplaatsen-landschap hebben ontgonnen;

- vanwege de zeldzaamheidswaarde van het 18de-eeuwse Vechthek;

- vanwege de zeer hoge kwaliteit van het 18de-eeuwse siersmeedwerk van het hek;

- vanwege de hoge ornamentele en beeldbepalende waarde;

LANDING STAGE, THE TERRACE AND TERRACE FENCE ON THE QUAY WALL BEHIND THE MAIN BUILDING Over Holland.

Very richly executed wrought iron fencing on a mirror-arch-shaped groundplan, located on the main axis of the house on the Vecht. The fence is placed on a hardstone capping of a brick retaining wall, which curves slightly toward the water level, and is closed by a hardstone console in Louis XV style. The vases belonging to it have disappeared after 1945. The ironwork is constructed of partly straight and in curves inward and outward-curving sections: the former sections display a very rich ornamental pattern of scrolls and palmettes and openwork baluster (central section) in wrought iron with a somewhat curved handrail. The sections running in curves display a filling of spokes with in the space between them at the bottom and top a refined filling of scrolls and lozenges and have a straight handrail. The fence was placed on commission of Jan van Mekeren and Margaretha Rutgers, owners of the country estate between approximately 1732 and 1755. The terrace, which is closed off by the fence toward the Vecht, is paved with clinker bricks. The fence features in the form of gracefully attached fold-down wooden benches running with the fence, wooden benches with profiling, intended for use in the summer months.
