Inleiding
De TENNISBAAN met MELKHUISJE is onderdeel van het recreatiecomplex De Lichtenberg. De tennisbaan, gelegen aan in de zuidoosthoek van het recreatiecomplex, is in 1956 voltooid naar ontwerp van architect P.H. Weegels.
Omschrijving
Op een verdiept aangelegd gedeelte zijn naast elkaar vijf (thans zes) tennisbanen aangelegd. Dit verdiepte terrein wordt door keermuren, opgetrokken uit Nivelsteiner breuksteen, omsloten. Aan de korte zijden geven smalle natuurstenen trappen toegang tot de banen. De korte zuidwestzijde heeft geen keermuur maar een aantal natuurstenen treden die als tribune functioneren. In de noordwesthoek is een eenlaags melkhuisje opgetrokken uit Nivelsteiner breuksteen. Dit gebouwtje staat op een vierkante plattegrond en heeft een met leien gedekt tentdak; aansluitend een klein terras met houten pergola. De tennisbanen werden in het verleden ook als schaatsbaan gebruikt. De tennisbaan heeft zijn oorspronkelijke functie en karakter behouden.

De TENNISBAAN met MELKHUISJE is van algemeen belang

The TENNIS COURT with MILK HOUSE is part of the recreation complex De Lichtenberg. The tennis court, located in the south-east corner of the recreation complex, was completed in 1956 according to a design by architect P.H. Weegels.
Description
On a sunken site, five (now six) tennis courts are laid out side by side. This sunken terrain is enclosed by retaining walls built from Nivelsteiner stone. Narrow natural stone stairs at the short sides provide access to the courts. The short south-west side has no retaining wall but a number of natural stone steps that function as a grandstand. In the north-west corner a single-storey milk house has been built from Nivelsteiner stone. This small building stands on a square plan and has a tent roof covered with slate; adjoining it is a small terrace with a wooden pergola. The tennis courts were formerly also used as a skating rink. The tennis court has retained its original function and character.
