Inleiding
ZWEMBAD met LIGWEIDE, KLEEDHOKJES, POMPHUISJE EN INSTRUCTEURSGEBOUW zijn onderdeel van het recreatiecomplex De Lichtenberg. Ze dateren uit 1956 en zijn gebouwd naar ontwerp van architect P.H. Weegels. De kleedhokjes vormen samen met de entree met muur de westelijke afsluiting van het recreatiecomplex.
Omschrijving
Dit terrein heeft een vierkante plattegrond (70 x 70 m) en bestaat uit een zwembad van Olympische afmetingen (33,5 x 25 meter) en een forse ligweide. Hier bevinden zich ook een instructeursgebouw rechts van de entree, kleedhokjes tegen een muur langs de IJzerenmanweg en een pompgebouwtje op de uiterste zuidwesthoek van het terrein. Van het zwembad zijn alleen de groengekleurde startblokken nog te onderscheiden. De wanden en vloer van het volgestorte zwembad zijn nog wel aanwezig maar niet meer zichtbaar. Aan de binnenzijde van de muur naast te de entree is, ter plaatse van het zwembadterrein, tegen de muur een rij bakstenen kleedhokjes opgetrokken. De houten deuren hebben bovenin een ronde opening. Vóór de rij kleedhokjes langs loopt een galerij die rust op betonnen ronde kolommen. In de uiterste zuidwesthoek van het complex staat aan het einde van de rij kleedhokjes een pomphuisje. Het eenlaags huisje staat op een vierkante plattegrond en heeft een met leien gedekt tentdak. Het is opgetrokken in Nivelsteiner breuksteen. In de gevel aan de zijde van de kleedhokjes is een houten deur. Direct rechts van de hoofdingang van het complex, aan de noordwestzijde van het zwembadterrein, staat het bakstenen instructeursgebouw. Het eenlaags gebouw staat op een rechthoekige plattegrond en heeft een zadeldak met nok haaks op de IJzerenmanweg. Het dak is gedekt met gesmoorde pannen. De blinde kopse bakstenen gevel is onderdeel van de breukstenen muur die langs de IJzerenmanweg het complex afsluit. Het rookkanaal tegen de andere kopse gevel is in breuksteen uitgevoerd. Tegen deze gevel bevindt zich tevens een recentere aanbouw. In beide langsgevels zijn enkele deuren en vensters geplaatst.

The SWIMMING POOL with SUNBATHING AREA, CHANGING CABINS, PUMP HOUSE and INSTRUCTOR'S BUILDING are part of the recreation complex De Lichtenberg. They date from 1956 and were built according to a design by architect P.H. Weegels. The changing cabins together with the entrance and wall form the western closure of the recreation complex.
Description
This terrain has a square plan (70 x 70 m) and consists of a swimming pool of Olympic dimensions (33.5 x 25 metres) and a spacious sunbathing area. Also located here are an instructor's building to the right of the entrance, changing cabins against a wall along the IJzerenmanweg and a pump house in the far south-west corner of the terrain. Of the swimming pool only the green-coloured starting blocks are still distinguishable. The walls and floor of the filled-in swimming pool are still present but no longer visible. On the inside of the wall next to the entrance, on the level of the swimming pool terrain, a row of brick changing cabins has been built against the wall. The wooden doors have a round opening at the top. In front of the row of changing cabins runs a gallery which rests on concrete round columns. In the far south-west corner of the complex, at the end of the row of changing cabins, stands a pump house. The single-storey building stands on a square plan and has a tent roof covered with slate. It is built from Nivelsteiner stone. In the facade on the side of the changing cabins is a wooden door. Directly to the right of the main entrance to the complex, on the north-west side of the swimming pool terrain, stands the brick instructor's building. The single-storey building stands on a rectangular plan and has a gabled roof with ridge at right angles to the IJzerenmanweg. The roof is covered with closely-laid tiles. The blind end-wall of brick forms part of the stone wall that closes off the complex along the IJzerenmanweg. The smoke channel against the other end-wall is executed in stone. Against this facade there is also a more recent extension. In both long facades several doors and windows are placed.
