Inleiding
De OMMURING met POORT en BRUG rondom het Clarissenklooster en de kloostertuin maakt onderdeel uit van het in 1950 - 1953 naar ontwerp van C.H. de Bever ontstane complex Clarissenklooster Rapelenburg dat gelegen is aan de rivier de Dommel in het park van het voormalige landgoed Rapelenburg te Eindhoven. Het complex is vanaf de St. Claralaan te bereiken via de brug over de gracht en de eenvoudige poort in de ommuring. De ommuring en de slotgracht zijn thans gedeeltelijk overgroeid met planten.
Omschrijving
De hoge bakstenen muur rondom het klooster en de tuin heeft een vrijwel rechthoekige plattegrond en is sober en doelmatig van karakter. De MUUR is aan zowel de binnen- als buitenzijde voorzien van kleine steunberen. De bovenzijde is gedekt met een ezelsrug. Twee muurgedeelten staan haaks op de omringende muur en sluiten ter plaatse van de sacristie rechts en de zijvleugel links aan op het kloostergebouw. Daarmee wordt het grootste deel van de tuin afgesloten van de voortuin en daarmee toegankelijk voor de slotzusters. De BOOGBRUG die naar de poort in de ommuring leidt, is van baksteen en heeft aan weerszijden lage bakstenen muurtjes gedekt met ezelsruggen. De POORT heeft een rondboogopening en twee eenvoudige traliehekvleugels. Op de nok van de poort een kruis en boven de boog het opschrift "+RAPELENBURG A D. MCMLIII".
Waardering
OMMURING met POORT en BRUG is van algemeen belang vanwege
- de cultuurhistorische en architectuurhistorische waarde als uitdrukking van de wijze waarop de architectuur de leefwijze van de Clarissen weerspiegelt;
- de ensemblewaarde met betrekking tot de functionele en visuele relatie van de ommuring met het kloostergebouw en de kloosteraanleg, waarbij de ommuring essentieel deel uitmaakt van het kloostercomplex;

Introduction
The ENCLOSING WALL with GATE and BRIDGE surrounding the Clarisse Convent and the convent garden forms part of the Clarisse Convent Rapelenburg complex created in 1950-1953 to the design of C.H. de Bever, situated on the river Dommel in the park of the former country estate Rapelenburg at Eindhoven. The complex is accessible from the St. Claralaan via the bridge over the moat and the simple gate in the enclosing wall. The enclosing wall and the perimeter moat are currently partly overgrown with plants.
Description
The high brick wall surrounding the convent and the garden has an almost rectangular floor plan and is of sober and functional character. The WALL is provided with small buttresses on both the inner and outer sides. The top is covered with a saddle coping. Two wall sections stand at right angles to the surrounding wall and connect at the sacristy on the right and the side wing on the left to the convent building. This encloses the greater part of the garden from the front garden and thereby makes it accessible for the enclosed sisters. The ARCH BRIDGE leading to the gate in the enclosing wall is of brick and has low brick walls on either side covered with saddle copings. The GATE has a round arch opening and two simple latticed gate doors. On the ridge of the gate a cross and above the arch the inscription "+RAPELENBURG A D. MCMLIII".
Valuation
ENCLOSING WALL with GATE and BRIDGE is of general importance by reason of
- the cultural-historical and architectural-historical value as an expression of the way in which the architecture reflects the way of life of the Clarisse sisters;
- the ensemble value with respect to the functional and visual relationship of the enclosing wall with the convent building and the convent layout, the enclosing wall being an essential component of the convent complex;
