Omschrijving
GROT (onderdeel 11). Als hoofdornament in het park even ten westen van het midden van het park opgetrokken kunstmatige grot in mergel, die de scheiding markeert tussen het parkgazon met solitairen en een wilder geaccidenteerde en beboste aanleg met slingerpaden. De grot bestaat uit twee in een curve verlopende ingangen met centraal een ronde ruimte. Hij is voorzien van in reliëf aangebrachte symbolen uit de Vrijmetselarij, zoals het symbool van de zon en maan, het symbool van de slang met stichtingsdatum van de grot (1804) en het symbool van de driehoek met zonnestralen. Ook de in de centrale ruimte aanwezig zuil van haaks op elkaar geplaatste mergelblokken is een verwijzing naar de Vrijmetselarij. Als zodanig is dit de enige in Nederland bewaard gebleven grot in een landschappelijk park met concrete verwijzingen naar de Vrijmetselarij.
Waardering
De GROT van de historische buitenplaats 't Gasthuis is in cultuurhistorisch opzicht van algemeen belang vanwege:

Description
GROTTO (component 11). As the main ornament in the park slightly west of the center of the park an artificial grotto built in marl, which marks the separation between the park lawn with solitary trees and a wilder irregular and wooded layout with winding paths. The grotto consists of two entrances running in a curve with a round space in the center. It is furnished with symbols of Freemasonry applied in relief, such as the symbol of the sun and moon, the symbol of the serpent with the founding date of the grotto (1804) and the symbol of the triangle with sun rays. Also the column present in the central space, made of marl blocks placed at right angles to each other, is a reference to Freemasonry. As such, this is the only grotto preserved in the Netherlands in a landscape park with concrete references to Freemasonry.
