Omschrijving
HISTORISCHE TUIN EN PARKAANLEG (onderdeel 2).
Waardering
De HISTORISCHE TUIN- EN PARKAANLEG VAN 'T GASTHUIS is in cultuurhistorisch opzicht van algemeen belang vanwege:
- de gaafheid van het vroeg landschappelijke park;
- de voorbeeldwaarde van een klein landschapspark behorende bij een kleinere historische Limburgse buitenplaats;
- de waarde als landschappelijke bedding van de Vrijmetselaarsgrot, die het hoofdornament in het park vormt;

Description
HISTORIC GARDEN AND PARK LAYOUT (component 2). The layout consists of a: a landscape park on the west side of the house and b: a small inner courtyard enclosed by marl walls.
a: The current park layout in landscape style probably came into being during the period when Albert Carel Hesselt van Dinter occupied the house, between 1793 and 1818. The park layout is situated on a rectangular plot of land and is closed off towards the road by an eighteenth-century wall of impressive length. The landscape park consists of a small, more or less flat park meadow with specimen trees (ginkgo, columnar oak, tulip tree, linden) in the vicinity of the house, which transitions at approximately the height of the grotto into a more undulating terrain with parkland woodland (beech, oak, acacia, chestnut) and winding paths. The grotto, whose foundation stone bears the year 1804, provides an indication of the date of origin of the current park. In the park meadow in the vicinity of the house lies a diamond-shaped path pattern. The grotto bears an unambiguous reference to Freemasonry, which is remarkable, because references to this spiritual society typically took place covertly. The layout of the well-preserved park in landscape style of 't Gasthuis, in which the grotto forms the main ornament, may also have been partly conceived from the ideas of this society. For the description of the grotto see component 11.
b: rectangular inner courtyard (utility garden) directly to the east of the side facade of the gate, situated on a raised terrace and enclosed by marl walls. The wall towards the courtyard is only approximately one metre high and is constructed as a balustrade, which creates views from the garden towards the courtyard and vice versa.
Valuation
The HISTORIC GARDEN AND PARK LAYOUT OF 'T GASTHUIS is of general importance from a cultural-historical perspective because of:
- the integrity of the early landscape park;
- the exemplary value of a small landscape park belonging to a smaller historic Limburgian country estate;
- the value as a landscape setting for the Freemasons' grotto, which forms the main ornament in the park;
- the presence of a small utility garden adjacent to the house.
