Aan de achterzijde (zuidoost) van het hoofdgebouw van de meelfabriek (monumentnummer 530959) gesitueerd SILOGEBOUW uit 1948-1952 voor de opslag van graan. Het object dat 40 meter hoog is, wordt met een stalen luchtbrug met het hoofdgebouw verbonden. Het gebouw bestaat uit 10 tegen elkaar aansluitende graancellen met een cirkelvormige doorsnede, die gegroepeerd zijn op een rechthoekig grondvlak. De onderbouw van de cellen heeft een in baksteen gemetselde buitengevel afgesloten met een gevellijst. Aan de noordzijde sluit een elevatortoren aan waartegen aan de westzijde een lift en een iets schuin geplaatst trappenhuis zijn gebouwd. Terwijl de silo's zijn uitgevoerd in gewapend beton met behulp van een glijbekisting en zich kenmerken door een glad gebogen oppervlak, wordt het flankerende volume geleed door het krachtige raster van het betonskelet dat met donkergekleurde raampanelen is ingevuld. De elevatortoren wordt bekroond door een ten opzichte van de onderbouw iets uitspringend en transparant behandeld kubusvormig motorenhuis dat met een gebogen dak wordt afgesloten. In de gesloten gevel van de lift aan de westzijde is baksteen toegepast, terwijl ter plaatse van het trappenhuis de gevel volledig transparant is en de zichtbare trap het gevelbeeld verlevendigt. Aan de zuid- en westzijde sluit tegen dit silogebouw het latere (niet beschermde) graansilogebouw uit 1964 aan.
Waardering
SILOGEBOUW uit 1948-1952 van algemeen belang als toonbeeld van de wederopbouw vanaf 1940:
- vanwege de cultuurhistorische en architectuurhistorische betekenis als historisch-functioneel onderdeel van het complex Meelfabriek Latenstein;
- vanwege architectuur- en cultuurhistorische waarde als gaaf bewaard gebleven voorbeeld van een silogebouw uit de wederopbouwperiode met een hoge kwaliteit in de architectonische uitwerking en als voorbeeld van de toepassing van glijbekisting in deze periode;
- vanwege typologische en bouwhistorische betekenis omdat het silogebouw bijdraagt aan de illustratiewaarde van het industriële complex waarin verschillende soorten silo's waren toegepast;
- vanwege stedenbouwkundige waarde vanwege de hoge ensemblewaarden in relatie tot het bijbehorende hoofdgebouw van de fabriek en de uitbreiding uit 1964 en is in samenhang met het hoofdgebouw van bijzondere en beeldbepalende waarde in het historische industrielandschap aan de Rijn- en Maashaven.

Description
Situated at the rear (south-east) of the main building of the flour mill (monument number 530959) is a SILO BUILDING from 1948-1952 for the storage of grain. The object, which is 40 metres high, is connected to the main building by a steel footbridge. The building consists of 10 adjoining grain cells with a circular cross-section, which are grouped on a rectangular ground plan. The base of the cells has an outer facade built in brick closed off with a facade cornice. On the north side an elevator tower is attached, against which on the west side a lift and a slightly angled stairwell have been built. While the silos are executed in reinforced concrete with the aid of a sliding formwork and are characterized by a smooth curved surface, the flanking volume is articulated by the powerful grid of the concrete frame that is filled with dark-coloured window panels. The elevator tower is crowned by a cube-shaped engine house that stands slightly proud of the base and is treated transparently, closed off with a curved roof. In the closed facade of the lift on the west side brick is used, while at the location of the stairwell the facade is completely transparent and the visible staircase enlivens the facade image. On the south and west side, the later (unprotected) grain silo building from 1964 adjoins this silo building.
Valuation
SILO BUILDING from 1948-1952 of general importance as an exemplary model of post-war reconstruction from 1940:
- because of its cultural-historical and architectural-historical significance as a historical-functional component of the Meelfabriek Latenstein complex;
- because of its architectural and cultural-historical value as a well-preserved example of a silo building from the post-war reconstruction period with high quality in its architectural execution and as an example of the application of sliding formwork in this period;
- because of its typological and building-historical significance as the silo building contributes to the illustrative value of the industrial complex in which different types of silos were applied;
- because of its urban planning value because of the high ensemble values in relation to the associated main building of the factory and the extension from 1964 and is in combination with the main building of special and image-determining value in the historical industrial landscape at the Rhine and Maas harbour.
