Inleiding
Houten dierenverblijf - onderdeel van diergaarde Blijdorp - naar ontwerp van ir. S. van Ravesteyn gebouwd in 1939-1941. De dierenverblijven zijn verspreid op het diergaardeterrein gesitueerd. Opvallend is dat in sommige dierenverblijven de gebogen lijn verwerkt is, die ook als vormelement in de aanleg van Van Ravesteyn te vinden is. De houten gebouwen bevonden zich conform hun vorm en de lijn van de aanleg langs of op de dierenweides. In de huidige situatie zijn enkele verblijven verplaatst, andere zijn op onderdelen aangepast aan nieuwe functies.
Omschrijving
HOUTEN DIERENVERBLIJF (22) ten noorden van het voormalige berentheater. Het dierenverblijf is volledig in hout opgetrokken door middel van een houtskelet en voorzien van een beschieting van horizontale zwartgeverfde houten delen. Het heeft een gebogen plattegrond. Het verblijf heeft aan alle zijden een overstekend gebogen zadeldak met een zwenkende dakrand. Het dak was oorspronkelijk met rode daktegels bedekt. In het gevelbeeld spelen witgeverfde ronde palen op de gevelhoeken een rol, evenals het witgeverfde houtwerk van de (gebogen) dakoverstekken en het kozijnhout in de gevels. De door de gevellijn stekende gordingen zijn gesneden evenals de omlijstingen boven de kleine rechthoekige raampjes in de kopgevels.

Wooden animal enclosure - part of Blijdorp Zoo - built according to the design of ir. S. van Ravesteyn in 1939-1941. The animal enclosures are situated scattered across the zoo grounds. Description
WOODEN ANIMAL ENCLOSURE (22) to the north of the former bear theatre. The animal enclosure is constructed entirely in wood by means of a timber frame and provided with cladding of horizontal black-painted wooden parts. It has a curved floor plan. The enclosure has an overhanging curved gabled roof on all sides with a sweeping roof edge. The roof was originally covered with red roof tiles. In the facade treatment white-painted round posts at the facade corners play a role, as do the white-painted woodwork of the (curved) roof overhangs and the window frames in the facades. The beams projecting through the facade line are carved as are the surrounds above the small rectangular windows in the end gables.
