Inleiding
Dienstgebouw - onderdeel van diergaarde Blijdorp - tot stand gekomen in 1939-1941 naar ontwerp van S. van Ravesteyn. Het gebouw is gesitueerd op de oostelijke grens van de diergaarde, parallel aan de Van Aersenlaan en is samen met het naastgelegen administratiegebouw belangrijk voor het beeld van de diergaarde aan deze zijde. Het gebouw is vormgegeven in een sober gedetailleerde traditionalistische stijl.
Omschrijving
In gele verblendsteen op een langgerekte rechthoekige plattegrond opgetrokken DIENSTGEBOUW (12) dat bestaat uit twee bouwlagen, met een hoog gedeelte aan de zuidzijde en aan de noordzijde een lager gedeelte dat een laadzolder heeft. De gevels zijn voorzien van een in rode baksteen gemetselde plint. De zadeldaken zijn gedekt met pannen. Boven de entree aan de straatzijde in het hoge gedeelte een plastisch vormgegeven luifel. De gevels zijn voorzien van rechthoekige vensters en deuren, met uitzondering van de rondvensters in de puntgevels en de boogvensters bij de entree.

SERVICE BUILDING (12) constructed in yellow facing brick on an elongated rectangular ground plan consisting of two storeys, with a high section on the south side and on the north side a lower section that has a loading loft. The facades are provided with a plinth of red brickwork. The gabled roofs are covered in tiles. Above the entrance on the street side in the high section a plastically designed canopy. The facades are provided with rectangular windows and doors, with the exception of the round windows in the gabled ends and the arched windows at the entrance.
