Inleiding
De bergdierenrots - onderdeel van diergaarde Blijdorp - kwam naar het ontwerp van S. van Ravesteyn tot stand in 1939-1941. De kunstmatige rots met verblijven voor bergdieren intern is gesitueerd in de noordoostelijke hoek van de dierentuin.
De bergdierenrots is in de loop van de tijd meerdere keren hersteld waardoor de vorm gewijzigd is. De sierlijke contouren van de borstwering aan de achterzijde zijn verdwenen door ophoging.
Omschrijving
BERGDIERENROTS (7). De door een verdiept buitenterras omgeven rots is opgetrokken uit baksteen dat is afgesmeerd met betonspecie om een rotsachtig uiterlijk te verkrijgen. Het object heeft een min of meer rechthoekige, afgeronde plattegrond en kent een symmetrische opbouw. Intern zijn verblijven opgenomen voor bergdieren. Het verdiepte buitenterras wordt begrensd door een betonnen borstwering. Aan de uiteinden loopt de wand schuin af en eindigt in rond gemetselde kolommen met vlaggenmasthouders.

The mountain animal rock - component of animal park Blijdorp - was constructed to the design of S. van Ravesteyn in 1939-1941. The artificial rock with dwellings for mountain animals internally is situated in the north-eastern corner of the zoo.

MOUNTAIN ANIMAL ROCK (7). The rock, surrounded by a sunken exterior terrace, is constructed of brickwork which has been rendered with concrete mortar to obtain a rock-like appearance. The object has a more or less rectangular, rounded floor plan and has a symmetrical structure. Internally dwellings are incorporated for mountain animals. The sunken exterior terrace is bounded by a concrete parapet. At the ends the wall slopes away and ends in roundly masoned columns with flagpole holders.
