Omschrijving onderdeel 4: op de bijbehorende kaart aangegeven met nr.4a, b en c
Drie GRENSPALEN behorende bij de historische buitenplaats Rust en Vreugd. a en b. Aan weerszijden van het toegangshek aan de Rijksstraatweg staan grenspalen daterend uit ca.1850. De grenspalen zijn geplaatst door Z.K.H. Prins Frederik, tweede zoon van Koning Willem I, die in de periode 1838-1846 diverse landgoederen in Voorschoten (Ter Horst) en Wassenaar (o.a. Raaphorst, Eikenhorst, De Paauw, Backershagen, Groot Haesebroek, Wildrust, De Drie Papegaaien) verwierf. Om de begrenzing van zijn omvangrijke landgoed aan te geven liet hij op de hoeken van zijn bezit grenspalen plaatsen, ter afbakening van zijn jachtgebied. De palen bevinden zich thans aan de zuidwestzijde van zijn landgoed. Oorspronkelijk markeerden de grenspalen de hoeken van het Menkenlaantje. Op vierkant grondvlak, bijna twee meter hoge hardstenen grenspalen met kappelletjes en geprofileerde afdekking en basement. Aan ene zijde in basreliëf aangegeven 'HOEK', aan andere zijde de tekst 'Eigen jagt van Z.K.H. prins Frederik'. c. Schuin tegenover de waterpomp staat een natuurstenen grenspaal uit de 17de eeuw met een wapensteen. De grenspaal is als schamppaal gebruikt aangezien hier de afslag van het koetshuis was.

GRENSPALEN behorende bij de historische buitenplaats Rust en Vreugd zijn van algemeen belang vanwege cultuur- en architectuurhistorische waarde:

Three BOUNDARY STONES belonging to the historic country estate Rust en Vreugd. a and b. On either side of the entrance gate on the Rijksstraatweg stand boundary stones dating from c. 1850. The boundary stones were placed by H.R.H. Prince Frederik, second son of King William I, who in the period 1838-1846 acquired various estates in Voorschoten (Ter Horst) and Wassenaar (including Raaphorst, Eikenhorst, De Paauw, Backershagen, Groot Haesebroek, Wildrust, De Drie Papegaaien). To indicate the boundaries of his extensive landed estate he had boundary stones placed at the corners of his property, to demarcate his hunting ground. The stones are now located on the south-west side of his estate. Originally the boundary stones marked the corners of the Menkenlaantje. On square ground plan, nearly two metre high freestone boundary stones with small caps and moulded coping and base. On one side indicated in bas-relief 'HOEK', on the other side the text 'Eigen jagt van Z.K.H. prins Frederik'. c. Diagonally opposite the water pump stands a natural stone boundary stone from the 17th century with an escutcheon. The boundary stone was used as a chamfered stone as this was where the turning from the coach house was.
