Omschrijving onderdeel 13: Gebouw 270 met VALTOREN.
Inleiding
GEBOUW 270 met houten VALTOREN, daterend uit 1925, werd gebruikt als proefnemingsfaciliteit in het noordoostelijke deel van het voormalig Eurometaal-terrein.
Omschrijving
De valtoren bestaat uit een circa 12 meter hoge constructie van balken en kruisschoren met vier steektrappen en een plateau met houten hek voor proefnemingen. Onder het plateau bevindt zich een drie meter lange houten koker voor valproeven. De toren staat op een houten werkruimte met houten vensters die is aangebouwd tegen een rechthoekig gebouw met plat dak. Het gebouw is opgetrokken in grauwe baksteen gemetseld in staand verband. De gevels zijn voorzien van een regelmatige vensterindeling met stalen 6- en 21 ruits vensters. De voorgevel (west) bevat stalen schuifdeuren onder een betonnen afdak.
Het interieur is ingedeeld in meerdere ruimtes gescheiden door muren en (oorspronkelijke) deuren.
Waardering
Het voormalige GEBOUW 270 met VALTOREN is van cultuur-, militair-, en architectuurhistorische waarde als voorbeeld van een valtoren voor munitieproeven uit het Interbellum en vanwege haar specifieke functie binnen de munitie- en wapenfabriek. Ook is de toren om deze reden van typologische waarde. Het object is van groot belang als historisch-functioneel onderdeel van het complex Hembrugterrein.

Introduction
BUILDING 270 with wooden DROP TOWER, dating from 1925, was used as a testing facility in the northeastern part of the former Eurometaal site.
Description
The drop tower consists of an approximately 12 metre high construction of beams and cross-bracing with four step ladders and a platform with wooden railing for testing. Below the platform is a three metre long wooden tube for drop tests. The tower stands on a wooden work space with wooden windows which is built against a rectangular building with a flat roof. The building is constructed of grey brickwork laid in stretcher bond. The facades are provided with a regular window arrangement with steel 6- and 21-pane windows. The front facade (west) contains steel sliding doors under a concrete canopy.
The interior is divided into several rooms separated by walls and (original) doors.
Valuation
The former BUILDING 270 with DROP TOWER is of cultural, military and architectural-historical value as an example of a drop tower for ammunition testing from the Interwar period and because of its specific function within the ammunition and weapons factory. The tower is also of typological value for this reason. The object is of great significance as a historically-functional component of the Hembrug complex.
