Inleiding
Voormalig AFDAK VOOR GIETKASTEN "Gebouw 56", onderdeel van het complex Hembrugterrein - Artillerie Inrichtingen Hembrug, daterend uit 1896. Dit object behoort tot de oudste bewaard gebleven bebouwing van de fabriek en bevindt zich in de oostelijke helft van fabrieksterrein als onderdeel van de voormalige gieterij. Thans is het gebouw buiten gebruik. Het afdak was oorspronkelijk tien traveeën lang (35 x 4 x 2,8 m) in plaats van de huidige twee traveeën. Het bezat een klinkerbestrating en rabatbekleding rondom.
Omschrijving
Afdak, gefundeerd op staal, opgericht op rechthoekige plattegrond en bestaande uit tweemaal drie smalle gietijzeren kolommen op cementbetonblokken en gemetselde poeren, ijzeren spanten en een dekking van gebogen ijzeren golfplaten. De kap betreft een lichte constructie van profielijzer van drie vakken met een kruisschoor in het middenvak. De spanten zijn met vier gordingen onderling verbonden. Hierop is het gebogen golfplaat bevestigd. Het afdak is met houten wanden afgeschot.
Waardering
Het voormalige afdak voor gietkasten "Gebouw 56" is van algemeen belang wegens cultuur- en architectuurhistorische waarde als voorbeeld van een open opslaggebouw uit het einde van de 19de eeuw, en tevens van belang als historisch-functioneel onderdeel van het complex Hembrugterrein, gebouwd in de eerste fase van de fabriek.

Introduction
Former SHED FOR CASTING BOXES "Building 56", component of the Hembrugterrein complex - Hembrug Artillery Installations, dating from 1896. This object belongs to the oldest preserved structures of the factory and is located in the eastern half of the factory site as part of the former foundry. Currently the building is not in use. The shed was originally ten bays long (35 x 4 x 2.8 m) instead of the current two bays. It had a brick paving and border cladding around it.
Description
Shed, founded on steel, erected on a rectangular plan and consisting of twice three narrow cast-iron columns on cement-concrete blocks and brick piers, iron trusses and a covering of curved iron corrugated sheets. The roof comprises a light structure of profiled steel in three sections with a cross-bracing in the central bay. The trusses are interconnected with four purlins. The curved corrugated sheet is fastened thereto. The shed is enclosed with timber walls.
Valuation
The former shed for casting boxes "Building 56" is of general importance due to its cultural and architectural-historical value as an example of an open storage building from the end of the 19th century, and is also of importance as a historical-functional component of the Hembrugterrein complex, built in the first phase of the factory.
