The GARDEN WALL, belonging to the historical country estate De Paauw, forms the enclosure of the nursery (old kitchen garden) situated on the north side of the main building. The brick garden wall, which bounds the rectangular kitchen garden on three sides, dates from different periods and is articulated by buttresses and block-tooth and sawtooth mouldings under a ridge. The wall was restored in 1954. The short north wall dates from the 18th century (with 20th-century repairs), red brick, buttresses on the north (i.e. outer) side, partly covered by red Oude Hollandse tiles: on those sections where greenhouses were located the tiles are traditionally absent. The south side of this section of the wall was reinforced with buttresses at the end of the 20th century. Adjoining on the west and east side a wall from the second half of the 19th century topped by a mouse-tooth moulding. The wall is capped at the top by recently applied concrete slabs rounded at the top. This wall is also braced on the outside by buttresses. The east wall ends on the north-east side against the north wall while the latter continues approximately two metres in an easterly direction. On the other (south) side the east wall ends in a rectangular pillar under a hardstone coping stone. Here the enclosure of the kitchen garden curves semicircularly inwards (into the kitchen garden). This semicircle is built up from a retaining wall with straight pillars under hardstone coping stones between them. Between these pillars an iron lattice fence with a pattern of square diamonds as a fence. At the south-east corner of this circle stands the lodge. The western wall is identical to the eastern wall. In this wall a small outbuilding. On the south side this west wall continues several bays (in an easterly direction) and is closed off by a rectangular pillar under a hardstone coping stone.
