Omschrijving onderdeel 2

- vanwege de schoonheid van de historische tuin- en parkaanleg;

- vanwege de gaafheid en ouderdom van de historische tuin- en parkaanleg;

Description of component 2

HISTORIC GARDEN AND PARK LAYOUT. The development of the park at Flevorama dates back to the eighteenth century when the park formed part of the historic country estate Oud-Bussum. The long beech avenue, which marks the entire western boundary of the park, was in fact the central avenue of a 'goose-foot'-shaped avenue structure that was part of the park of Oud-Bussum. The straight avenue, which leads to the coach house, also originally formed part of this structure. For the rest, the layout of the Flevorama park is characterized by a landscape-style design. The landscape-style park of Flevorama underwent gradual development, which began from 1816, when J.P. van Rossum acquired the country estate Berghuis and with it also Flevorama, which at that time still formed part of the Berghuis estate. Van Rossum transformed the layout of Berghuis step by step into a landscape-style design. In the part of the park that was certainly called Flevorama by 1842 (cf. Topographic and Military map from that year) approximately the eastern half of the site was excavated for sand extraction. As was not unusual at this time with sand extraction on country estates, the terrain was excavated in such a way that at the same time a very attractive and very undulating landscape was created. The higher-lying sections of the park remained wooded and were provided with a pattern of winding paths, as is still visible today. In the lower sections transformed into park meadows, the broad sand channel was laid out in curves as a meandering river in an Arcadian meadow landscape. The Topographic and Military map from 1842 makes clear that by that year the landscape-style layout that is still recognizable today had been largely completed. The current entrance from the Flevolaan to the house site is also indicated on this map. On the house site stood a small summer house, called Belvedère. Around the time of the construction of the country house Flevorama between 1856-1870 the park underwent some changes.

Valuation

The HISTORIC GARDEN AND PARK LAYOUT is of general cultural-historical importance:

- because of the beauty of the historic garden and park layout;

- because of the integrity and age of the historic garden and park layout;

- as an intact example of a reclaimed estate from the first half of the 19th century, in which the exploitation of sand extraction went hand in hand with landscape architecture.
