Description
Description
MAIN BUILDING (Overduin). Central to the layout stands a block-shaped whitewashed house built in neoclassical style in 1839 on the commission of Jonkheer Mr. Willem C.M. de Jonge van Ellemeet. The house consists of a basement and two storeys with dark plinth beneath a roof covered with Old Dutch tiles, with a flattened hipped roof. The articulation and decoration of the facades is determined by framed windows, rusticated corner pilasters, spandrels (partly decorated with openwork decoration), terminated by a cornice and a partly solid, partly openwork balustrade (no longer present at the front). The relatively flat-designed front facade facing south has centrally a double pilaster arrangement in which a recessed, slightly arched entrance section, above it likewise recessed, straight-finished balcony; in front of the entrance section a portico with on either side a rectangular plinth with a lion. The double glazed entrance door beneath a semicircular fanlight with tracery bars furnished with scrollwork is flanked by a narrow standing-bar window; side walls with semicircular niches in which sculptures, slightly arched ceiling with rosettes. Above it a three-part window opening with pilasters, along the openings a wooden trellis has been applied for climbing plants, double glazed doors open onto this balcony. On either side a window arrangement consisting of a narrow basement window, a below-sill ground floor window and a six-pane window on the upper storey. The rear facade has a projecting central risalit terminated by a three-sided pediment; in the risalit on the bel-étage a coupled three-part window in Serliana motif, on the upper storey a coupled, straight-finished window; on either side of the risalit a window arrangement. Against the side facades is a single-storey block-shaped extension with corner pilasters, high plinth and cornice; a window arrangement in the end facade. The 19th-century neoclassical INTERIOR was restored following war damage between 1950-1960, including the central hall with stucco work and semicircular niches with sculptures in the corners; in the various rooms (including dining room, music room, library) stuccoed ceilings and marble fireplaces/Utrecht fireplaces, in the dining room partly gilded stucco and large double doors with overdoors, in the library an internal shutter (sliding panel) with mirror for the north window against the cold, staircase to the billiard room originally a hunting room in the basement.
