Omschrijving onderdeel 1 HOOFDGEBOUW LANDHUIS TER WADDING.

Description of component 1 MAIN BUILDING COUNTRY HOUSE TER WADDING.

A blocklike main building of red brick, presumably erected shortly after 1768 at the behest of Willem van Noort, who acquired the country estate that year, according to the design of an architect who remained unknown. The single-storey house faces the road with its front (east) side and is roofed with surrounding Old Dutch tile-covered hipped roofs, within which a roof covering with 2 similarly tile-covered hipped roofs (ridge direction: east-west). Before the restoration, in addition to the front, two roof dormers were installed on each side of the roof. The current situation of 3 double roof dormers on the rear and a double roof dormer on the north side dates from the time of the latter restoration. The house is symmetrical in design both internally and externally, with a slightly projecting entrance section in the central one of the 5 bays of the wide front facade, located on the main axis of the park layout, behind which a spacious corridor. In the 19th century (see print Lutgers 1855) until the restoration of the house in 1972-1974 by architects Piet van der Sterre this main axis was visually experienced in the house due to the glazed front and rear doors. At the latter restoration the glazed double front door on the front facade was replaced by the current double panelled door and the empire windows of the house were replaced by the current multi-paned windows. The extension at the SW corner of the house is also an addition from the time of the latter restoration. Internally, the kitchen was enlarged to its current dimensions during this restoration, through demolition of a partition wall between the kitchen side corridor. Also at that time the forecourt was raised with paving, causing the plinth on the front facade and the first step of the entrance staircase to be below ground level. The front facade has ashlar block pilasters as corner strips and is finished with a cornice running all around containing the gutter. The corner strips are crowned by wooden urn-shaped ornamental pieces in Louis XV style. In the cornice at the height of the middle risalit the founding year of the house: MDCCLXX. The cornice is crowned by a wooden bracket of monumental proportions with scrolls in Louis XV style. According to tradition this bracket is said to come from the country estate Allemansgeest. The bracket is already indicated on a drawing of the house by Jacob Timmermans from circa 1788. Centrally in the bracket a clock face, not visible on said drawing, nor on a print by Lutgers from 1855. Clock face and the small bell tower centrally on the front roof panel were probably installed in the early 20th century. Internally part of the clockwork has been preserved. The door crowned by a fanlight in the front facade and the window on the first storey at the height of the middle risalit are surrounded by rich moulding in Louis XV style. On either side of the ashlar entrance staircase a late 18th-century ashlar console placed against the facade in Louis XV style. On either side of the entrance section two window bays with sash windows, on the storey somewhat shorter than the ground-floor windows. The rear facade risalits like the front facade. In the rear facade likewise 5 window bays with windows as on the front facade. In the left and right side facades on the storey in the middle two sash windows placed next to each other. In the left side facade furthermore on the ground floor on the right side a narrow sash window (before the restoration there were 2 narrow sash windows here), in the middle of this facade on the ground floor a sash window as on the storey, directly below it a basement window and to the left a window which before the restoration formed the fanlight of an access door situated here. Internally: on the ground floor and on the storey the corridor located in the axis of the house divides it into two equal parts. On the north side of this corridor on the ground floor and on the storey two spacious rooms. On the south side of this corridor and on the storey on the front (east) side a spacious room. On the ground floor on the south side of the corridor at the west end is the kitchen, with a large fireplace on the south side and partly original tilework (white tiles). The windows in this room have internal shutters. Between the kitchen and the room at the front is the monumental stucco-executed stairwell under a dome with ornamental work in Louis XV style. Behind it is the access door to a basement. In the stairwell an oak entrance staircase from the time of construction with balusters in Louis XV style. Under the stairs (right) a white marble fountain with moulding in Louis XV style. The corridor on the ground floor has decorative stucco ceiling in Louis XV style, marble floor tiles from the time of construction and white marble wainscoting. The panelled doors to the rooms on the ground floor are provided with ornamentation in Louis XV style. The room on the NE side has wall panelling with sections and moulding in neo-Louis XV style, probably installed around 1900. In this room a late 18th-century marble fireplace mantel. The ceiling shows ornamental stucco work in Louis XV style from the time of construction. The room on the SE side likewise has a ceiling with ornamental stucco work in Louis XV style from the time of construction. In this room on the west side a monumental marble fireplace mantel and fireplace breast with rich stucco work in Louis XV style. In the room at the rear of the house a fireplace mantel in Empire style with Empire stucco ceiling. On the storey on the right side above the basement a small room with fireplace mantel and breast in stucco with ornamentation in Louis XV style.

Valuation The MAIN BUILDING COUNTRY HOUSE TER WADDING is of general cultural-historical importance;

- as an intact example of a country house from around 1770;

- on account of the integrity and high quality of the ornamentation of this house both externally and internally in Louis XV style;

- on account of ensemble values.
