Building 1 stands detached on the east side of the access road to Vrijland-Noord, directly west of building I A, the so-called 'Junkershalle'. The relatively long and narrow structure extends from north to south and runs parallel to that road. Description

Single-storey brick SHED on a rectangular footprint several tens of metres long and relatively narrow, and covered by a gently sloping roof pitching backwards with short eaves resting at the front on wooden corbels. The shed is divided into approximately ten bays separated by wall divisions; the first and second bay from the left are fitted with double wooden outward-opening hinged doors. The third and fourth bays are closed with brick masonry except for a window in the fourth; the fifth and sixth are open; the sixth contains doors comparable to those of 1 and 2, and contains within several separate, larger and smaller spaces. Bays seven and eight are closed with wooden planks. The rear gable and both side gables are executed blind. The interior consists of several narrow spaces extending over multiple bays and the roof consists of wooden parts supported by some small beams.

SHED, of general importance as a readily recognizable component of a military camp dating from the Second World War and established by the German occupier as part of a large military airfield, on account of: urban-planning, military and cultural-historical and complex and ensemble values, which may be demonstrated in particular by the components and details characteristic of the building period, by the artificially established geometric settlement structure strongly conforming to the pre-existing spatial arrangement and the camouflage carried through in its detailing, by the coherence of and with the total military airfield concept and the spatial main lines and components of the camp, and by the mutual relationship of the forms applied therein.
