The register's description

Inleiding

Introduction

Building 35 stands detached, somewhat set back between number 33 and 62, in a hamlet-like structure on the south side of a straight axis oriented towards the east on Groot-Heidekamp. The roof ridge is oriented approximately from northwest to southeast and stands diagonally to the nearest section of road. Building 35 is a military barracks constructed in 1940-1941 as a 'Regelbau' and at the macro level forms part of a large military airfield structure from the years 1940-1945, at the meso level part of a sparse complex of buildings arranged partly in linear and partly in hamlet-like formation, and within this at the micro level part of a number of properties grouped in loose linear arrangement.

Description

Single-storey, relatively small brick MILITARY BARRACKS with approximately 50 cm thick outer walls and in part executed with crawl space, on rectangular plan and covered by a hipped roof splayed slightly at the bottom and clad with grey corrugated tiles, with two chimneys through the southwest roof slope and one through the northeast. In the northwestern gable end / main gable on the left an access opening with a later installed ramp, fitted with a flush door and a fanlight divided into four and to the right of this two window openings with concrete plinth, in which four-pane drop windows above and below double wooden inward-opening two-pane casement windows, below the plinth fitted with sheet-steel shutters with green and white painted hourglass motif. Southeastern gable end with on the left and right a comparable window opening and centrally a later bricked-up access opening. In both long sides two comparable window openings and in both a later bricked-up window on the northwest-facing side. Gutters along the eaves all around. Interior largely modernised.

Valuation

MILITARY BARRACKS, of general importance as a clearly recognisable component of a military camp dating from the Second World War and established by the German occupier as part of a large military airfield, on account of: architectural-historical, urban-planning, military and cultural-historical and complex and ensemble values, which can be demonstrated inter alia by the traditionalist building style inspired by local forms, by the components and details characteristic of the building period, by the artificially constructed hamlet-like structure and the camouflage carried through in detail, by the coherence of and with the overall military airfield concept and the spatial main lines and components of the camp, and by the mutual relationship of the forms employed herein.
