Omschrijving
Grote blokvormige RENTMEESTERSWONING uit ca.1890, gebouwd in eclectische stijl. Het huis heeft een houten veranda tegen de rechter zijgevel en een jongere uitbouw tegen de achtergevel. Dit deel is voor de bescherming van ondergeschikt belang. Het vrijstaande pand is gesitueerd aan de oostelijke zijde van de Zijpendaalseweg en is de enige villa aan deze verder niet bebouwde zijde van de Zijpendaalseweg.
Gebouw opgetrokken van rode baksteen, op rechthoekige plattegrond, twee bouwlagen en een omlopend afgeplat schilddak hoog. Het dak is gedekt met gesmoorde verbeterde Hollandse pannen. De voor- en zijgevels worden in horizontale zin geleed door een hardstenen (voorgevel) of gepleisterd (overige gevels) plint, natuurstenen speklagen ter hoogte van de onder- en bovendorpels van de vensters, een geprofileerde cordonlijst tussen de verdiepingen en ter afsluiting aan de bovenzijde een hoofdgestel. De licht getoogde vensters hebben segmentbogen en sluit- en aanzetstenen. Op de hoeken bakstenen hoekpilasters met zandstenen blokken en bewerkte consoles op het hoofdgestel. De drie traveeën brede voorgevel bezit een risalerende middentravee. Dakkapel boven de middentravee met plat dak, rondboogvenster en houten omlijsting, bestaande uit pilasters en een doorbroken fronton met ornament. Het hoofdgestel met tandlijst onder de dakrand is bij de middenrisaliet en de hoekpilasters omgezet.
De symmetrisch ingedeelde voorgevel bezit in de middenrisaliet een ingang met hardstenen stoeptreden, paneeldeur met smeedijzeren roosters en een segmentvormig bovenlicht. Boven de ingang een houten balkon op geprofileerde houten korbeelstellen. Het balkon bezit een houten balustrade met balusters en openslaande deur. De traveeën aan weerszijden van de middenrisaliet bezitten in iedere bouwlaag een venster met T-schuifraam.
De rechter zijgevel bezit een zelfde detaillering als de voorgevel. Tegen de middenas staat een houten veranda met lessenaarsdak, zes gecanneleerde zuiltjes met lijstkapitelen, een lage balustrade en met ramen gevulde zijwanden. Onder de dakrand bevindt zich een lijst met figuurzaagwerk. In de tweede bouwlaag vier getoogde vensters.
De linker zijgevel telt vier traveeën en heeft een zelfde detaillering als de voorgevel. Geheel links bevindt zich een ingang met paneeldeur met groot gietijzeren rooster en hoge gecementeerde bakstenen trap. De overige traveeën in de eerste en tweede bouwlaag bevatten vensters met T-schuifraam. De tweede travee van rechts bevat een blindvenster.
De achtergevel is met uitzondering van de hoekpilasters gepleisterd. De gevel sluit aan de bovenzijde af met een eenvoudige houten bakgoot op klossen. Tegen de eerste bouwlaag sluit de iets jongere aanbouw aan.
Het INTERIEUR bezit een aantal oorspronkelijke elementen. Onder meer van belang zijn: rondboogtochtportaal, bordestrap met gietijzeren spijlen en houten leuning. Voorts enkele eenvoudige stucplafonds.
Waardering
De RENTMEESTERSWONING behorend tot de historische buitenplaats Sonsbeek is van algemeen cultuurhistorisch belang:
- wegens de ouderdom;
- wegens de eclectische bouwstijl met invloeden uit de neorenaissance en het neoclassicisme;
- wegens de bijzondere situering aan de rand van het Sonsbeekpark;

Large block-shaped STEWARD'S HOUSE from ca.1890, built in eclectic style. The house has a wooden veranda against the right side gable and a more recent extension against the rear gable. This part is of subordinate importance for the purposes of protection. The detached building is situated on the eastern side of the Zijpendaalseweg and is the only villa on this otherwise undeveloped side of the Zijpendaalseweg.
Building erected of red brick, on rectangular plan, two storeys and an encircling flattened hipped roof. The roof is covered with damped improved Dutch tiles. The front and side gables are articulated horizontally by a sandstone plinth (front gable) or rendered (other gables) plinth, natural stone string courses at the height of the under- and over-sills of the windows, a profiled cordon between the storeys and at the top closure a cornice. The slightly arched windows have segmental arches and have voussoir and springer stones. At the corners brick corner pilasters with sandstone blocks and worked consoles on the cornice. The three-bay wide front gable possesses a projecting central bay. Roof dormer above the central bay with flat roof, round-arched window and wooden surround, consisting of pilasters and a broken pediment with ornament. The cornice with dentil frieze under the roof edge is returned at the central projection and the corner pilasters.
The symmetrically arranged front gable possesses in the central projection an entrance with sandstone steps, panelled door with wrought-iron grilles and a segmental fanlight. Above the entrance a wooden balcony on profiled wooden corbels. The balcony possesses a wooden balustrade with balusters and double doors. The bays on either side of the central projection possess on each storey a window with T-sash window.
The right side gable possesses the same detailing as the front gable. Against the central axis stands a wooden veranda with lean-to roof, six fluted columns with list capitals, a low balustrade and side walls filled with windows. Below the roof edge is a frieze with fretwork. On the second storey four arched windows.
The left side gable has four bays and has the same detailing as the front gable. At the far left there is an entrance with panelled door with large cast-iron grille and high cemented brick staircase. The remaining bays on the first and second storey contain windows with T-sash window. The second bay from the right contains a blind window.
The rear gable is rendered with the exception of the corner pilasters. The gable closes at the top with a simple wooden gutter on brackets. Against the first storey the slightly more recent extension is attached.
The INTERIOR possesses a number of original elements. Of particular importance are: round-arched entrance portal, main staircase with cast-iron balusters and wooden handrail. Furthermore several plain stucco ceilings.

The STEWARD'S HOUSE belonging to the historical country estate Sonsbeek is of general cultural-historical importance:
