In neoclassicistische stijl vormgegeven PAVILJOEN, in het laatste kwart van de 18de eeuw gebouwd als buitenhuis, vermoedelijk naar ontwerp van architect Roelof Roelofs Viervant op de toenmalige buitenplaats 'Sonsbeek'. Het paviljoen werd in 1808 bestemd tot tuinmanswoning, een functie die het zou behouden onder H.J.C.J. baron van Heeckeren. Nadat in 1899 het landgoed Sonsbeek door de gemeente Arnhem was aangekocht werd het paviljoen uiteindelijk herbestemd als Theeschenkerij. Al spoedig daarna werd een op houten zuilen steunende, open hal als uitbreiding gebouwd. In de jaren dertig van de twintigste eeuw is het geheel beglaasd.
Sonsbeekpaviljoen op vrijwel vierkante plattegrond met driezijdige uitbouw aan de voorzijde, één bouwlaag en een kapverdieping hoog. Het omlopend schilddak is gedekt met moderne gesmoorde opnieuw verbeterde Hollandse pannen. De uitbouw loopt met een veelhoekig tentdak aan op het hoofddak. De gevels zijn wit gepleisterd en staan op een plint. De vensters bezitten nog merendeels hun oude kozijnen met hardstenen lekdorpels.
Boven het driezijdige middendeel is een zinken ornament met rond uurwerk. In de risaliet de omlijste toegang waarboven een halfcirkelvormig licht met spaakroeden. Op de gevelhoeken en op de buiten- en binnenhoeken eenvoudige vlak gepleisterde pilasters met lijstkapitelen. In de smalle schuine zijden vensters met 6-ruits schuiframen. Overeenkomstige vensters bevinden zich in de traveeën aan weerszijden van de middenrisaliet. Boven de vensters rechthoekige blindnissen.
Op de linker zijgevel sluit een lage rechthoekige vleugel met plat dak aan. De gevels zijn gepleisterd en geleed middels vlakke pilasters. Op de rechter zijgevel sluit een tussenlid aan, dat het paviljoen verbindt met de in het eerste kwart van de 20ste eeuw gebouwde theeschenkerij.

A PAVILION designed in neoclassical style, built in the last quarter of the 18th century as a country house, presumably designed by architect Roelof Roelofs Viervant on the then country estate 'Sonsbeek'. The pavilion was designated in 1808 as a gardener's dwelling, a function it would retain under H.J.C.J. baron van Heeckeren. After the Sonsbeek estate was purchased by the municipality of Arnhem in 1899, the pavilion was eventually converted into a Tearoom. Shortly thereafter, an open hall supported on wooden columns was built as an extension. In the 1930s the whole structure was glazed.
The Sonsbeek pavilion stands on an approximately square floor plan with a three-sided extension at the front, one storey high and a roof storey. The surrounding hipped roof is covered with modern dampened newly improved Dutch tiles. The extension adjoins the main roof with a polygonal tent roof. The facades are rendered white and stand on a plinth. The windows largely retain their original frames with ashlar sill stones.
Above the three-sided central section is a zinc ornament with a round clock. In the risalit is the framed entrance, above which is a semicircular fanlight with spokes. On the facade corners and on the exterior and interior corners are simple flat-rendered pilasters with moulded capitals. In the narrow sloped side facades are windows with 6-light sash frames. Corresponding windows are located in the bays on either side of the central risalit. Above the windows are rectangular blind recesses.
On the left side facade, a low rectangular wing with a flat roof adjoins. The facades are rendered and articulated by means of flat pilasters. On the right side facade, an intermediate section adjoins, which connects the pavilion to the tearoom built in the first quarter of the 20th century.
